Is it Real?
Authenticity can be a concern when shopping for a COACH bag on the internet for the first time. But there is Good News! Knowing a few simple facts will help you buy with great confidence.
First, you must know that COACH does NOT sell wholesale. Please avoid the temptation to purchase or even look at these "COACH Wholesale Lists" that you can find all over the internet. As convincing as they sound, fancy as they look and tempting as it can be, they simply are not real. There is no such thing. Therefore, there is nothing more to say about it. You have just learned a very valuable peice of information!
Ebay is truly a great place to buy COACH products. Are there fakes on the site? Of course. But not as many as you may have been led to believe. Ebay has really cleaned up the designer section of it's site over the past 2 years. They've initiated more stringent selling rules, cut out the 1 and 3 day acutions so the theives can't sell and run and will even place limits on suspicious sellers until they have had a chance to investigate. Still, you must use a little common sense and do a little investigating of your own for a truly confident purchase.
Lets talk about common sense. If COACH doesn't wholesale to anybody, then it would make sense that anybody advertising a "closeout sale" with ridiculously low prices would be someone to avoid! It's not the sale to run from but rather the prices! If someone is, for example, selling a COACH Signature Lg Tote Bag for a BUY IT NOW price of around $100, RUN RUN RUN! A minimal amount of research would reveal that a bag like that would sell anywhere from $250-$350. There's just no way this can be legitimate and it's not even worth looking at. This simply reverts back to the old saying: "If it's too good to be true, it probably is!"
Possibly the greatest tool eBay has for shoppers is their Feedback. Every member has a Feedback rating. It is simply a rating given by other members. When you buy an item, you can leave your seller a rating and he can leave you one! There are two separate Feedback sections for sellers but the important one is the simple original one. It is easily seen at the top right of every members page. You will see for example, "Members name (1276) and under that will be, for example, Feedback: 99.7% Positive. The first number (1276) beside the sellers name tells you how many Unique Positive Feedbacks have been left. Basically it's giving you an idea of how many transactions this seller has completed. Below, (the 99.7%) is telling you what percentage of comments left were Positive. If you click on the (1276) part a little chart will open and tell you how many of each (Positive, Negative, Nuetral) the seller has received.
This is important! If you are shopping for a COACH bag, you probably do not want to buy from a seller with a rating of less than (300) and 98.5% Positive Feedback. Of course there are always exceptions but here's a very good piece of advice:
If a seller is selling PRIMARILY COACH products and has a Feedback rating of (300 or more) with 98.5% or higher, they are most likely selling AUTHENTIC COACH products! GO for it!
Now don't gloss over this. Understand that primarily Coach means just that! This is because if they were selling fakes they'd be shut down long before reaching the 300. They'd never reach the 98.5% mark either because of complaints. But if they are selling mostly pens, shoes, fishing hooks or whatever and then decide to sell a COACH bag they found at the flea market, this advice won't work and I think you can see the logic in why.
So when you check on a sellers "other items for sale" link or "completed listings" link, make sure the majority of those items are COACH products and you can be almost certain that this simple rule will not fail you!
- In conclusion, it's easy to be needlessly concerned about things such as patches or numbers or embossings. These things are easily copied by professional bootleggers and are not always good indicators of a fake bag. Especially when shopping online. A plastic patch can look just like leather in an auction picture. But the Feedback doesn't lie! You also have the ability to ask questions before buying.
